How Lots Of Brazilians Feel About The World Cup Days Ahead Of The Games
Many Brazilians are pretty pissed off about the $11 billion dollar price tag for hosting the event.
Just days ahead of the FIFA World Cup Brazil is becoming a site of utter chaos. Protestors jammed the streets of Sao Paulo in protest of the upcoming games. Riots and street fires, along with riot police armed with concussion grenades and tear gas, plugged the streets. This was made even worse as Metro workers continued their strike asking seeking a 2% pay increase. Security is another issue, adding to the mounting problems, facing the FIFA World Cup and Brazilian authorities. The protests are over the government spending $11 billion dollars on hosting the cup, when many Brazilian’s feel the money would be better spent on healthcare and education. In fairness, however, there are many other Brazilians that are excited to be hosting the World Cup. Flags and banners do fly supporting the cause. So in spite of the strike, the riots, and the security concerns, not every Brazilian opposes hosting FIFA.
